CYTOLOGY OF SKIN AND SUBCUTANEOUS TISSUE – PRACTICAL WORKSHOPS FOR VETERINARIANS
Biopsies, microscopy, and clinical specifics – all in one day!
Do you already have a basic understanding of cytology but want to take it to the next level? These workshops are the perfect opportunity to refresh and expand your knowledge in direct contact with experienced instructors – from the moment of sample collection to the interpretation of microscopic images.
What can you expect?
🔹 You will learn how to properly collect cytological material and perform biopsies
Proper sampling is fundamental – literally. During the workshops, you will learn various techniques for collecting material from tumors and skin lesions, as well as subcutaneous tissue. You will understand when it is better to use fine-needle aspiration and when to use other methods. You will also learn to avoid the most common mistakes that affect the quality and interpretation of the sample. The entire program is based on CLINICAL PRACTICE – no theoretical discussions detached from reality!
🔹 You will practice assessing inflammatory and neoplastic lesions
In the theoretical part, we will discuss the cytological features of inflammatory and neoplastic lesions, including both benign and malignant ones. You will learn how to differentiate mesenchymal changes from epithelial and round cell ones, when a diagnosis can be made, and when caution is advised. You will also learn about typical diagnostic traps and how to avoid them. Knowledge from this part is not just about “pretty slides” – it’s about clinical decisions based on specifics.
🔹 You will immerse yourself in microscopic analyses of real cases – a total of 4 hours of intensive work with preparations
The practical part is the true heart of the workshops. Each participant will have their own microscope and access to a carefully selected set of preparations – covering 25 cases including neoplastic, inflammatory, and reactive changes. This is the perfect opportunity to practice recognizing cells independently and... sometimes making mistakes, but under the watchful eye of the instructors – and that’s how learning happens!
🔹 You will gain practical tips that you can immediately apply in clinical practice
Every case, every preparation, and every discussion during the workshops aim for one thing – for you to know what and how to do the next day in practice. The instructors will share their clinical experiences, tips, and diagnostic approaches that truly work. This is not just about cytology for the sake of cytology – it’s about better diagnostics, more accurate decisions, and more confident patient care.
Who is it for?
For veterinarians who want to enhance their diagnostic skills in a practical way, under the guidance of experienced specialists. Intermediate level.
A small group – only 25 participants. Everyone works at their own microscope.
One intensive day – maximum knowledge, minimum fluff!

He conducts numerous lectures, seminars, and workshops in his field of specialization. Additionally, he serves as Poland's representative on the European Board of Veterinary Specialisation (EBVS). His main areas of interest include cytology, hematology, and clinical chemistry of companion animals, particularly the application of advanced studies (e.g., flow cytometry and lymphocyte clonality assessment) in the diagnosis of hematological tumors in animals. He has participated in many research projects and is the author of numerous publications in peer-reviewed Polish and international journals. During his work at universities in Warsaw, Toruń, and Cambridge, he gained teaching experience. He has also completed many research internships, including at the University of California, Davis, the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna, the In Vitro Laboratory in Vienna, and the CTDS Laboratory in Leeds. He has received numerous awards, including the Zoetis Clinical Research Publication Award 2014, the Zoetis Travel Bursary Awards 2015, and the Polish Veterinary Science Society Award.

Rules:
The group consists of a maximum of 25 participants, and each works at a separate microscope.
Despite the significant role that cytological examination plays, accurate diagnosis depends on in-depth theoretical knowledge and understanding its limitations. Accurate interpretation of cytological observations is essential for proper therapy management in patients.
